With iOS 18.2 and Later, You Can Share the Location of Lost Items in Find My
With iOS 18.2, Apple added a helpful enhancement to the Find My app: the ability to create a temporary webpage that shares the location of a lost AirTag or other Find My-tracked item. This new feature makes it easier to get help locating lost belongings—without needing to know anyone’s contact info. Just generate a link and share it via text, email, or any other method. The link automatically expires after 7 days, or you can stop sharing manually anytime. If the item is reunited with you before then, sharing ends automatically.
One of the most useful applications? Sharing with an airline to help track the location of misplaced luggage. Rather than explaining where your bag might be, you can send a live location link that updates in real time.
To use the new feature (available in iOS 18.2 and later):
- Open the Find My app
- Tap Items
- Select your AirTag or compatible item
- Tap Share Item Location
- Choose how you want to send the link
This works with AirTags and supported third-party accessories that are part of Apple’s Find My network—like luggage tags, backpacks, and bike trackers.
The temporary link doesn’t reveal your Apple ID or personal information—just the item’s live location. You fully control what’s shared, and for how long.
It’s a small but smart upgrade that can make a big difference when time (and location) matters.
